Congratulation to Caden Brown! He is the Georgia Stock Market Game STATE winner beating out more than 500 teams across the state. Sponsored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education, the Stock Market Game™ is an online simulation in which students manage a hypothetical $100,000 portfolio over a 10-week period and invest in stocks. Under the guidance of his QUEST teacher, Dr. Emerson Chester, Caden invested his hypothetical $100,000 in four stocks, including a large holding in Netflix. Monitoring the market, buying and selling when necessary, his investment grew to $150,668.

Please join Synovus, Georgia Southern University College of Education and Bulloch County Schools in congratulating the first Synovus Teacher of the Game, Simone Lane of William James Middle School.  Dignitaries from these sponsors plus Superintendent Charles Wilson surprised Ms. Lane in her classroom on Sept. 1. Mikaela Dekle, the student who nominated her, was also on hand to read the winning essay she wrote about her.

Now a sophomore at Statesboro High School, Dekle shared that Lane, her former sixth-grade science teacher, "Not only was a teacher to me, she was a mother figure at my lowest point of my life when I wanted to give up. Some things she said to me still stick with me till this day." Dekle added, "She definitely deserves to be recognized for her amazing mentoring and motherly acts."

Ms. Lane will be recognized on the field and video board will at the Oct. 4th GA Southern home football game.

Letters are coming home regarding the times of our extended school day on August 21 and permission for your child to observe the eclipse event that day. Car riders will be dismissed at 3:45 and bus riders will leave our school at 4:50. Please return your Solar Eclipse Parent Form by Thursday, August 17.

We are making plans to view the eclipse event as a school if we are able to secure the appropriate glasses for every student. We are also making arrangements for students who "opt-out" of this event to stay inside with a supervising teacher. If we are not able to secure glasses for every student, we will be streaming the event through the NASA website.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this event, please contact jmizell@bullochschools.org.
